My Story

Several years ago I purchased a fire escape ladder for my granddaughter. Before giving her
the gift I realized that it would probably be stored in an out-of- the way closet or under a bed.
Certainly not a place for something needed only in a fire emergency. Being a lifelong hobbyist woodworker, and a furniture guy, I decided to create an enclosure for my gift. I reviewed my lumber inventory and decided to build a rustic crate design cabinet which would be handsome and could be placed in any room near a window. The result was a handsome chest with a look like no other design. “There is nothing else like it” is the compliment I heard most often.

After encouragement from many people, I decided to create Rough Cutters. The original
design has been refined and upgraded utilizing only the finest 1” rough cut Vermont knotty pine lumber, top quality hardware, and a birch plywood bottom. The exciting thing is I added laser imaging and personalizing to my products thus providing the opportunity for people to create a truly special heirloom or gift.
